Makris Wins ‘Best Cypriot Cuisine’ Award
There’s good news from the village of Moniatis! Makris Restaurant has been awarded the title of ‘Best Cypriot Cuisine’ at the Cyprus Estia Awards, one of the country’s most respected hospitality and gastronomy events.
The award recognizes more than five decades of dedication to Cypriot food. For 51 years, Makris Restaurant has been serving dishes inspired by local traditions while continuing to evolve with modern techniques and a strong focus on quality ingredients.
Today, that tradition is carried forward by Anna Maria and Christos, who continue to build on the restaurant’s family legacy while introducing Cypriot cuisine to new generations of diners. Their approach combines respect for authentic flavors with a fresh perspective, creating a menu that feels both familiar and contemporary.
Visitors can expect a wide selection of Cypriot and Mediterranean dishes, from traditional cooked meals and meze to grilled specialties, seafood, and vegetarian options. Surrounded by the greenery and cooler temperatures of the mountain area, it’s a setting that invites guests to slow down and enjoy the experience.
The latest award is a well-deserved recognition of a restaurant that has spent decades celebrating the flavors of Cyprus while continuing to look towards the future.
